My favorite
novel at the moment is Susurro de besos, written by Laura B., also known as Dorianne,
and published by Ediciones Babylon. Susurro de besos is a drama novel, but it
also criticizes how society reacts to homosexuality, showing that our society
is not as respectful and open-minded as we think.
This book
is settled at Spain, more specifically in Valencia. The main plot is about two
male students that fell in love in university. They will try to fight over all
the adversities they will encounter related to homophobia: the fear of being
rejected by their own friends, the people who will try to harm them, and even defend
themselves from their own family. But before that, they will have to break
every single stereotype they grow up with and realize that they love each other
and that there’s nothing wrong with it. At some point in the novel they have to
split by the fact that they follow different paths academically speaking, but
they will end having a long-distance relationship. The question here is: will
they be able to get over all the obstacles…?
The message
of this story it’s that we should love whoever we want, regardless of the
stereotypes settled in our society. At the end, they become a strong and loving
couple; the best ending that could be, since they end both living happily.
